District 4 Fayetteville

This fellowship position is in District 4 in Fayetteville, Georgia. The fellow selected for this position will be an employee of Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health for the duration of the fellowship but will spend their time working as a level 1 epidemiologist within District 4. The Fellow may be able to work remotely 1 day per week.
The Fellow can expect to engage in a variety of routine epidemiologic activities in this position including:
- Assists in the implementation of timely disease intervention strategies to decrease the prevalence of communicable diseases.
- Designs, implements, and maintains disease surveillance systems and/or best practices.
- Serves as the on-call epidemiologist in accordance with the designated rotation schedule
- Collects, analyzes, and interprets statistical data and prepares reports.
In addition to regular duties, the Fellow will need to complete an oral/poster presentation and at least two required analytic, evaluation, or quality improvement projects. Examples of projects in this district include:
- Data analytics: The fellow will be responsible for applying data analytics to assess factors influencing community health in District 4, utilizing both quantitative and qualitative data. The project will focus on identifying and analyzing key determinants such as socioeconomic conditions, environmental factors, healthcare access, and lifestyle behaviors that affect the well-being of the community. The fellow will track and monitor this data, as well as its outcomes, using an internal dashboard developed in Tableau and Power BI.
- Community health assessment: The fellow will engage in field visits, internal and external meetings, create surveys, and assist the district communications team with a community health assessment and community health improvement plan to address systems, policies, and events that impact public health. The fellow will collaborate with public health professionals, community members, and organizations to develop and implement evidence-based solutions.
Preferred Fellow background and skills include:
- Closely supervised work experience demonstrating competence in conducting public health surveillance, analyzing surveillance data, reporting analytic results, and conducting outbreak investigations.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage confidently with the public
- Knowledge and/or experience in epidemiology field investigations and outbreak response
