The fellow selected for this position will be an employee of Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health for the duration of the fellowship but will spend their time working as a level 1 epidemiologist within the North Central district.  The Fellow may be able to work remotely 2-3 days per week.

The Fellow can expect to engage in a variety of routine epidemiologic activities in this position including:

  • Contribute to district strategy development and ongoing public health operations.
  • Build disease trend dashboards and reports, ensuring our leadership and county Boards of Health have access to actionable data when making decisions about resources.
  • Assess HCV linkage-to-treatment data to maintain quality assurance and develop performance improvement recommendations to ensure better access to care in our communities.
  • Turn complex surveillance reports into clear, monthly briefings for our district partners, lead trainings for local providers on emerging disease trends, and represent a public health epidemiology perspective in cross-sectoral meetings.

In addition to regular duties, the Fellow will need to complete an oral/poster presentation and at least two required analytic, evaluation, or quality improvement projects. Examples of projects in this district include:

  • Vaccine Preventable Disease Risk and Community Health Assessments: The Fellow will lead a comprehensive analysis of vaccination coverage and exemption trends across the district. Moving beyond basic reporting, the Fellow will utilize geospatial mapping and demographic stratification to identify geographic hot spots for populations vulnerable to vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs). The Fellow will also work with our epidemiology team to design methodologies for assessing health outcome disparities, resource gaps, and emerging health trends. This work serves as a foundation for our community health assessments and strategic planning. Competencies: Data Analytics & Assessment, Public Health Sciences, Health Equity.
  • Data Translation and Risk Communication Infrastructure: To bridge the gap between disease surveillance, public awareness, and partner interventions, the Fellow will spearhead a “Public Health Talks” communication series. They will translate complex epidemiological data into high-impact infographics and presentations for healthcare providers and community partners. This project gives the Fellow experience effectively communicating to interdisciplinary teams. This project would enhance public health readiness to respond to emerging threats across and strengthen community resilience and our reputation as a trusted, transparent health authority. Competencies: Community Partnerships, Leadership & Systems Thinking, Communication

Preferred Fellow background and skills include:
