District 6 East Central
This fellowship position is in District 6 East Central in Augusta, Georgia. The fellow selected for this position will be an employee of Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health for the duration of the fellowship but will spend their time working as a level 1 epidemiologist within the North Central district. The Fellow may be able to work remotely for 2-3 days per week.
The Fellow can expect to engage in a variety of routine epidemiologic activities in this position including:
- Emphasis on enteric, food-borne, water[1]borne, and animal bite investigations.
- Cross-training in departments of interest or need.
- Participation in district preparedness events
In addition to regular duties, the Fellow will need to complete an oral/poster presentation and at least two required analytic, evaluation, or quality improvement projects. Examples of projects in this district include:
- Vaccine-Preventable Disease Preparedness & Response: The fellow will work on community-focused improvement of vaccine uptake. Primary disease of interest at this time would be measles. The fellow can expect to create a one-page outline to disseminate and present in the community.
- Community Partner Outreach Strategy for Hepatitis Screening: The fellow would complete a health education and outreach project focused on strengthening community-based hepatitis prevention, screening awareness, and linkage-to-care efforts within the district. Using local hepatitis surveillance data, the fellow would identify populations and geographic areas experiencing disproportionate burden of hepatitis A, hepatitis B and hepatitis C.
Preferred Fellow background and skills include:
- Experience with data analysis, being able to describe the data to different education levels
- Interest in disease investigation
- Comfortable speaking to and interviewing patients/cases
- Subject matter knowledge of public health in general
