District 1-1 Northwest

This fellowship position is in District 1-1 Northwest in Rome, Georgia. The fellow selected for this position will be an employee of Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health for the duration of the fellowship but will spend their time working as a level 1 epidemiologist within the Northwest district. The Fellow may be able to work remotely for 2-3 days per week.
The Fellow can expect to engage in a variety of routine epidemiologic activities in this position including:
- Designs, implements, and maintains disease surveillance systems and/or best practices.
- Collects, analyzes, and interprets statistical data and prepares reports.
- Conducts engagement and outreach with community members and/or stakeholders affected by or interested in disease outbreaks or data.
- Assists with the development of policies and procedures for new and existing disease control programs.
- Provides training, technical assistance, and consultative services regarding epidemiology and the control of diseases.
In addition to regular duties, the Fellow will need to complete an oral/poster presentation and at least two required analytic, evaluation, or quality improvement projects. Examples of projects in this district include:
- Employee health focus: The fellow will conduct a comprehensive survey to identify prevalent health concerns and risk factors among district employees. Fellow would then analyze survey results and develop a report with actionable recommendations for targeted wellness initiatives for the district and/or health department employees.
- Develop an electronic district public health packet. The fellow will develop an electronic packet of public health resources to be sent to new medical providers in the district introducing them to local/district public health programs and contacts. Focus areas for the packet will include how to report various diseases/conditions, contacts at the local health departments, and services provided to the community.
Preferred Fellow background and skills include:
- Closely supervised work experience demonstrating competence in conducting public health surveillance, analyzing surveillance data, reporting analytic results, and conducting outbreak investigations.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Experience engaging with medical staff and patients.
