District 3-1 Cobb-Douglas

This fellowship position is in District 3-1 Cobb-Douglas in Marietta, Georgia. The fellow selected for this position will be an employee of Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health for the duration of the fellowship but will spend their time working as a level 1 epidemiologist within the Cobb-Douglas district. The Fellow may be able to work remotely 2-3 days per week.
The Fellow can expect to engage in a variety of routine epidemiologic activities in this position including:
- Working with the Acute Disease Epidemiology Program’s case and outbreak follow-up with projects in other programs.
- Cross-training in HIV, STI Epidemiology, and TB, to assist with data analyses and reports.
- Designs, implements, and maintains disease surveillance programs and/or best practices
In addition to regular duties, the Fellow will need to complete an oral/poster presentation and at least two required analytic, evaluation, or quality improvement projects. Examples of projects in this district include:
- HIV data analysis: The fellow will assist the HIV Prevention Program with various district HIV data queries and analyses. These data reports will likely be conducted quarterly to be reviewed by district leadership and utilized by the HIV team for planning and outreach purposes.
- Informatics and data visualization: The fellow will assist the Epidemiology Center team with analysis of syndromic and respiratory surveillance data and visualization of STI and TB trends. The district plans to utilize Power Bl and the fellow will be expected to learn this program to produce reports for leadership. T
- Assist the Health Equity Director with the following projects:
- Ensuring our public-facing MySideWalk webpage has current data (evaluated 2 times/year). This webpage is used to share and update the agency’s Community Health Assessment (CHA) data and Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) strategies and action items to the public.
- Collecting data for the agency’s next CHA (using data from DPH OASIS)
Preferred Fellow background and skills include:
- Closely supervised work experience demonstrating competence in conducting public health surveillance, analyzing surveillance data, reporting analytic results, and conducting outbreak investigations.
- Strong data analysis and data presentation skills
- Strong written/verbal communication skills
